Fire Prevention Week 2009

Fire Prevention Week

During the week of October 4-10, 2009, the Bellbrook Fire Department taught fire prevention and safety to school students.  An important part of the week included the annual Fire Department Open House on October 6th, 2009.

The most successful annual educational event continues to be the School Fire Safety Program.   Members of the Fire Department train every child from pre-school to fifth grade in the Sugarcreek School system about important fire safety behaviors.  This involves an entire week of our personnel visiting each classroom to give a personal touch to this important curriculum. For many years the school safety program has enjoyed an excellent partnership with the schools, principals and teachers to further enhance our efforts.

The culmination of our Public Education program is the Annual Fire Prevention Week Open House.  The highlight of this year’s event was the “virtual reality” fire extinguisher trainer from the Silco Fire Protection Company. With a “carnival” type atmosphere, this annual event is our opportunity to show the community the fine equipment, highly skilled training and great people that make up the Bellbrook Fire Department.  The Open House also hosted a presentation of awards to the winners of our annual Fire Prevention Coloring Contest and fifth Grade Class Quiz. Various displays from: Kettering Medical Center, Grandview Hospital, Miami Valley Hospital, The Bellbrook Amateur Radio Club, The American Red Cross and the Farmers Insurance Kids I.D. program to name a few. Even though the weather was cool and damp we still enjoyed a crowd of over 500 Bellbrook residents visiting their Fire Department.
