Citizens Academy of Bellbrook

 

The Citizens Academy of Bellbrook gives Bellbrook residents a unique opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look into the operation of local government with a fun and educational program.  Attendees get instructions and tours of each department operated within the city government including hands-on experiences.  Throughout the course, the attendees interact and work with city officials to gain insight and better understanding of their city's operations.

The objectives of the program are to involve and engage residents to learn and understand the operation of city government and to improve the communication between the city and the community to build and strengthen relationships throughout the entire community.

The program is free and open to adult residents of the City of Bellbrook.

Fall 2023 Program and Schedule

All programs will run from 6:30pm to 8:30 pm unless otherwise noted.

Tuesday September 5, 2023 6:30pm

  • Welcome and Introduction, including overview of the Academy
  • Structure of the City
  • Mayor and Council, Boards and Commissions

This session will be located at City Hall

Tuesday September 12, 2023 6:30pm

  • Administration and Community Development
    •  City Budget and Finance/Tax Structure
    • Zoning and Code Enforcement
    • Planning/Economic Development
    • Human Resources/Risk Management

This session will be located at City Hall

Tuesday September 19, 2023 6:30pm

  • Police Operations
    • Patrol and Investigations
    • School Resource Officer and Crime Prevention
    • Tour of Police Facility
    • Practical display and demonstration of police cruiser, equipment and weapons

This session will be located at City Hall and will involve a walking tour and access to a garage and parking lot.  Flashing lights will be used for part of the display.

Tuesday September 26, 2023 6:30pm

  • Fire Operations
    • Fire prevention and fire fighting
    • Emergency medical services
    • Rescue operations
    • Tour of Fire facility and demonstration of fire apparatus, equipment and tools

This session will be located at Station 2 on 725 and will involve a walking tour and demonstration of equipment.  Flashing lights and loud equipment sounds will be part of the display.

Tuesday October 3, 2023 6:30pm

  • Public Works/Water Utility
    • Street and Infrastructure Maintenance
    • Water Works
    • Tour of the water production facility and demonstration of heavy equipment

This session will be conducted at two locations requiring travel during the session.  It will include walking tours of facilities and demonstration of vehicles, machinery and equipment.  Some equipment will emit loud sounds.

Tuesday October 10, 2023 6:30pm

  • Intergovernmental Services
    • Greene County services including animal control, health department, building inspections, planning, engineering and Board of Elections
    • Local Schools
    • Park Districts

This session will be located at the Bellbrook Sugarcreek Community Support Center and will include a walking tour and stairs with limited access.

Tuesday October 17, 2023 6:30pm

  • Historical Museum

This session includes an outdoor walking tour of various locations in the City as well as a tour of the Historical Museum building and artifacts.

Monday October 23, 2023 7:00pm

  • Presentation of Certificates at City Council Meeting

This session will be located at City Hall.
